Below, we highlight some of Jen’s best advice on life, love, hair and beauty, and her fitness routine from her interview with People‘s Julie Jordan. You can read the complete article in the May 2nd issue of People, on newsstands now.
Jen’s Hair Care Regimen & the Haircut She’d Secretly Like to Try
Aniston’s other secrets for taking care of her hair are: water, sleep and the hair care line Living Proof. She also shampoos her hair every two to three days and is “addicted to the dry shampoo” in between washings.
If she could try any haircut, she’d try a pixie cut. “I’m very curious to see what I would look like with really short hair. But I’ll never do it. Never. I’m a long-hair girl. I like my hair. It’s like a security blanket.”
How Jen’s Friends (& Husband) Keep her Happy
Aniston says she stays happy and centered by reconnecting with her husband, Justin Theroux, and her girlfriends. “You just have to tune in to each other,” she says. “And tune out all the noise.”
Her husband brings her the most joy in her life. “He’s a really kind guy, which is huge,” she says. “He’s the easiest person. I have great conversations with him. He makes me laugh—he’s so interesting and interested. He’s unbelievably talented in more areas than one, and he’s just a good man.”
What she’s learned about love over the years: “Love comes in all shapes and sizes. It’s something to be taken care of and cherished. And paid attention to. It’s a blessing.”
Beauty Secrets That Keep Her Looking & Feeling Her Best
Every beauty secret that she knows, she says she learned from her glam squad. “I know how to contour, I know how to blow out my hair.”
But most of all, she defines true beauty as: “Inner confidence. Peace. Kindness. Honesty. A life well-lived. Taking on challenges and not feeling shame for things that haven’t gone the way you felt they should have. And not feeling like a failure or allowing people to critique your life and make you feel like you’ve failed at something. That’s just toxic noise.”
“Life is about embracing and loving yourself and being okay with your limitations.”
When does she feel she looks her best? “I feel really beautiful when I finish a great workout. Because I’ve taken care of my body, my endorphins are going, my blood is pumping. I’m taking care of the one body I have.” But she’s learned to embrace her body overall. “I used to be such a little round thing. Now I’m just like, my body is my body, so I’ve embraced things overall.”
Staying Fit: Jen’s Workout Secrets
The key to her workout routine: variety. Aniston likes to keep things interesting with yoga, weight training and spinning.
Jen’s regular routine is a spin-yoga class three days a week, which is 25-30 minutes of spinning and then 30-40 minutes of yoga. Three days a week, she’ll do a weight training workout at home or she’ll do cardio at home. Her at-home cardio is usually 15 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes on the treadmill running and then 15 minutes on the elliptical. “You have to shake it up—you know, muscle confusion,” she says.
So, how does she stay motivated to stick to her workout routine? “Just to do it… Just bite the bullet and do it. Think of a wonderful pasta or Mexican meal that you want to have on the weekend, and dangle that in front of you like a little carrot.”
We’re Not the Only Ones Feeling Nostalgic for Old Friends
“I would love to go back in time and do a couple more episodes of Friends,” Aniston admits. “I just loved that show.” Us too, Jen. Us too. Anyone else hoping for a Friends reunion?
